Activity Groups

We have a regular set of activities that we do, please have a look at our activities list below. Everyone is welcome to join in as many as they wish. Check with the relevant coordinator to ensure the group is functioning as described here.


Ian Miller

Activity Co-ordinator: Ian Miller
Venue: Domain Swimming Centre
Day: Every Friday
Time: 7:45 am
Details: The venue is undercover and ideal for our exercise group. We have an hour programme devised by Murray Rose The exercises are designed so as not to put your head under water but still give a number of simple exercises with the advantage of the swimming pool. We have a core group of approximately 12 people each week depending on who is not away on holidays. Our group include Probus Members and partners and we will be pleased to welcome friends. Coffee at the venue is routine after our swim programme.

Venue: Meet in the car park near the Beach House at Lower Sandy Bay
Day: Every Wednesday Morning
Time: 9:15 am for a 9:30 am start
Details: Join our group for a stroll/walk at your own pace and enjoy some fresh air, a pleasant walk, some tasty coffee and some lively conversation. Wives and partners and friends are most welcome. Do yourself a favour, always a good outing, rain hail or shine. We look forward to seeing you.


Geoff Medhurst

Venue: A selected restaurant that changes monthly
Day: Second Thursday in most months
Time: From 12 o’clock
Menu: lunch specials – Fish; Steak; Chicken; Pasta etc  
Price: as per menu, usually $25-$30 plus drinks
Details: This is a favourite with many of our members and the group size is 15-20 Hobart Probarians. These highly popular occasions offer the chance for members to get to know each other in an informal way and the resulting animated conversation is always a highlight of the event.


Coordinator: Rob Brand
Details: The aim of the Group is to provide stimulating and entertaining outings for Probus Members including their partners and friends. A varied program of excursions is planned to cater for a wide range of interests. Optional lunches are arranged with all Activities allowing attendees to socialise. Members are encouraged to suggest Activities that may be of interest to fellow Members. An open invitation exists for any Member to join the Outing Group.


Details: Each year we have a BBQ. This time the venue was changed to the water front at Sandy Bay


Activity Co-ordinator: Graham Sargison
Details: The “Vanners” group which is open to all members – with wives/partners of course. Its aims are:

  1. to foster an interest in caravanning and/or motor-homing
  2. to share experiences
  3. to share knowledge through occasional social activities
  4. to organise “vanning” excursions of short or long duration.
    We have an annual week long camp at White Beach (Nubeena), usually in February. This is open to all active “Vanners” and other interested club members who may choose to stay in the cabin accommodation available on site.


Coordinators: Mike Walpole

Seeks to provide opportunities for members, wives and guests to travel as a group within and beyond our state. Suggestions from members as to destinations etc to the group are welcome.
